Rigging hardware is the equipment used to secure, lift, and suspend loads. Rigging itself is the chains, ropes, and cables that tie items down or lift them. If you're a sailor, you'll be familiar with the rigging used to set and furl sails, as well as the associated hardware, which includes blocks, shackles, and winches. In a lifting context, rigging has a similar role, except it is often equipment, machines, and construction materials being lifted.
Self-locking hooksSelf-locking hooks, also commonly known as positive locking hooks or safety hooks, are used in all applications, from industrial manufacturing to offshore oil and gas. There are many clear benefits that end-users have found in switching from sling or standard hooks to self-locking hooks – all contributing to enhanced safety in their lifting operations.
An Overview Of Anchor. An Anchor Is A Device, Normally Made Of Metal . An anchor is a device, normally made of metal, used to secure a vessel to the bed of a body of water to prevent the craft from drifting due to wind or current. Anchors can either be temporary or permanent. Permanent anchors are used in the creation of a mooring, and are rarely moved; a specialist service is normally needed to move or maintain them. Vessels carry one or more temporary anchors, which may be of different designs and weights.
Anchor chain refers to a special chain that connects the anchor and the hull and transmits the anchor's holding power. It is often composed of anchor side chains, intermediate chains and end chains. According to the structure of the chain link, it can be divided into two types: the anchor chain with stud and the anchor chain without stud. The strength of the former is greater than that of the latter. The length of the anchor chain is measured in sections, and the standard length of each anchor chain is 27.5m. The knots are connected with connecting links or connecting shackles. Usually, the chain length of the main anchor on each side of the 10,000-ton vessel is about 12 knots.
Webbing slings consist of two types. Flat Webbing Slings: These slings are light, flexible, and are generally used in situations where the load can be damaged by a heavy chain or wire rope slings or where companies wish to improve the safety of the workplace by using lighter, easier to use lifting slings. Round /Endless Webbing Slings: These slings have the benefit of being able to turn the sling around to share the wear and tear at lifting points. Endless slings are flexible and easy to use and can be made in a variety of ways.
The original primary use for pulleys was to make it easier to lift heavy items. A pulley is a simple machine made with a wheel and a rope, cord, or chain. Pulleys can be found everywhere to help make tasks easier. In addition to lifting things, pulleys can be used singly or with many pulleys working together to transport people or things. They can also be used to provide power from one shaft to another.
Rope is made by twisting or braiding multiple strands or yarns together to form a stronger and more durable material. Rope has long been an extremely important tool for humans, as it’s used for tying, binding, pulling, dragging, and lifting. The art of making rope is very old, but today, many people would much rather go to a hardware or outdoor store and purchase a length of rope than make it by hand, but it’s nonetheless a very useful skill to have. Rope can be made by hand or with the help of a machine, and it can be constructed from many materials, such as natural plant fibers, plastic, paper, strings, wires, or basically anything else that can be cut into strips.
A chain is a serial assembly of connected pieces, called links, typically made of metal, with an overall character similar to that of a rope in that it is flexible and curved in compression but linear, rigid, and load-bearing in tension. A chain may consist of two or more links.
Wire rope is a complex mechanical device that has many moving parts all working in tandem to help support and move an object or load. In the lifting and rigging industries, wire rope is attached to a crane or hoist and fitted with swivels, shackles or hooks to attach to a load and move it in a controlled matter. It can also be used to lift and lower elevators, or as a means of support for suspension bridges or towers.
